Ian Lopezbuilds acrossboundaries.

Mechanical 3D CAD Designer, systems builder, technical QA consultant, and experimental developer. I turn messy physical and digital problems into things people can actually use.

01 / Practice

One practice.
Four ways in.

The medium changes. The instinct stays the same: understand the system, find the friction, and make the next version hold up better.

01

Engineer

3D models, production drawings, machinery retrofits, and electromechanical troubleshooting grounded in real constraints.

  • SOLIDWORKS
  • CAD
  • Mechatronics
02

Build

Desktop tools, web systems, automations, and community infrastructure designed around how people actually work.

  • Go
  • TypeScript
  • PowerShell
03

Test

Structured QA, game playtesting, production review, and live-event operations with useful feedback instead of vague bug notes.

  • QA
  • Triage
  • Production
04

Experiment

Interactive graphics, spatial displays, generative systems, and motion studies where code becomes a visual material.

  • Three.js
  • MediaPipe
  • TouchDesigner

02 / Selected work

Built to do more
than look finished.

A small set of projects that show the range: visual computing, native software, and systems made for live people in live environments.

Tracked
Display

A six-experiment browser lab that uses cameras, point clouds, face and hand tracking, and off-axis 3D to make the screen behave like a spatial surface.

  • Three.js
  • MediaPipe
  • TypeScript
  • Tweakpane

A cross-platform modpack installer that replaces launcher scavenger hunts with one guided desktop flow and a resilient multi-strategy resolver.

03 / CodePen notebook

Rough tests.
Real signal.

CodePen is the scratch surface: small tools, visual systems, and unfamiliar ideas tested quickly. The strongest signals graduate into larger builds.

04 / About

From shop floor
to shader.

I do my best work in the overlap. A CAD drawing, bug report, interface, event workflow, and motion study all start with the same question: what is this system trying to do, and where is it fighting the person using it?

I have worked across machinery retrofit, mechanical 3D CAD, game QA, digital production, community operations, and experimental software. That range is not a detour. It is the toolkit.

Selected field notes2018 - now

Mechanical 3D CAD Designer + Technical QA

Production-ready drawings, mechanical troubleshooting, playtesting, and digital production support.

Games + Live Production

QA and production work across creator projects, collaborative game events, and convention environments.

Project GoldWing

Media lead and technician supporting a Bonneville land-speed motorcycle team.

AURA Scans

Founded and led a distributed comics production group while contributing to editing, redrawing, and quality.

05 / Contact

Make something
that holds up.

Have a physical problem, digital system, strange visual idea, or product that needs a sharp testing pass? I want to hear about it.
